How to copy one directory into another

Use the command cd to go into the first directory then:

cp -a * /second/directory/

In this way you can copy also the symlinks.

You can also put the structure of a directory into a variable like this:

variable=$(find /path/of/directory/)

To copy the structure of the directory use the command:

cp -a $variable /new/directory

That copies into /new/directory the contents of $variable
